FEAF MEMORIAL
The first 3 addressees are aware of the efforts we have been making toestablish the FEAF Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum.(NMA) The design is now finalised and approved by the Trustees of the NMA and subject to a few refinements and adjustments in delivery costs, the cost of supplying and engraving the slates for the Memorial is as shown below. We cannot claim back or avoid paying the VAT so we are talking about £3600 or thereabouts. (The NMA can claim the VAT back if we transfer our funds as a donation to the NMA and they pay the bills.
The problem is that we have a total of £3353.89 in the funds; therefore we need more funds to meet the costs of the 42 Square feet of engraved slate and the site fees of foundations and the structural support for the slates.
I need a cushion of around £2500 to be underwritten by the 3 Associations and others who have an interest in the project. I'm happy to "go public" via The RAF News and hope that the membership of our associations will also contribute again individually.
The RAF BPA has reserved £800 to assist the funding, but I need to know how much the Selatar and Changi Association and perhaps the Alan Hotchkiss's Far East Transport Wing, are prepared to put in the pot to fund the base and structure on which to lay the memorial.
Would you give the matter urgent consideration and let me know as soon as possible that I can rely on Seletar and Changi transferring £800 or more each to the "FEAF Grove Account" via my address in the next few weeks.
We will still be short of the Information Plaques, but that's something we can add in due course. However, if individual contributions resulting from RAF News etc, provide a reasonable response, any residual funds can be used for providing the plaques.
